Fort Lauderdale is not Miami with a different zip code.

Brands that succeed in Miami often copy the same plan thirty miles north and wonder why it lands flat. Broward has its own audience, its own calendar and its own media. Here is what changes, and how to plan for it.

A different audience

  • More residents, fewer tourists passing through. Much of Broward is neighborhoods and families, so repeat business matters more than a single viral weekend.
  • A boating and beach town. Life is organized around the water, the Intracoastal and the marinas.
  • Seasonal residents. Many people live here from roughly November to April and leave for the summer.
  • A more relaxed tone. What reads as glamorous in Miami can read as trying too hard here. Friendly and local wins.

Many small towns, not one city

Broward is a string of places with their own identities: Las Olas and downtown Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Wilton Manors, Pompano Beach, Hollywood, and more. People are loyal to their own few blocks.

  • Name the town, not just "South Florida," in captions, ads and the website
  • Target ads by a tight radius rather than the whole county. See Meta ads for local business.
  • Join the local chamber and the town's own events

Its own calendar

Miami's big weeks do not always move Broward. These do:

  • The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in the fall
  • The Winterfest Boat Parade in December
  • Tortuga Music Festival on the beach in spring
  • Spring break and the winter season, when visitors and seasonal residents peak

Our Miami and Fort Lauderdale event calendar has the wider list, and marine and yacht marketing covers the boat show crowd.

Local creators, checked properly

Many "Miami" creators have few followers in Broward. Before any partnership, ask for a screenshot of the creator's top audience cities. A smaller creator whose audience is mostly Fort Lauderdale will send more people through the door than a larger one whose audience is spread across the country. See micro vs. macro influencers.

Local press and groups

  • Broward has its own outlets: the daily paper, city and lifestyle magazines, and neighborhood newsletters. Pitch them a local story, not a Miami press release.
  • Community Facebook groups are active here. Residents ask for recommendations in them every day. Be helpful, never spammy.
  • Reviews carry weight with an older, research-minded audience. See reviews and reputation.

Plan for the summer

When seasonal residents leave, the year-round locals are the business. Use the slower months for resident offers, loyalty rewards and events that build habit. See loyalty and referral programs.

What to measure

  • Share of followers and customers who live in Broward
  • Repeat visit rate
  • Map views and direction requests by town
  • Sales in summer versus season

The bottom line

Speak to residents, name the town, plan around Broward's own calendar, verify where a creator's audience lives, and pitch the local press a local story. Our client DaVinci Gelato is making this exact move from Miami Beach to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
